SEL points to children's social and emotional development, focusing on how children can better handle their relationships with themselves and others, and have a rich and strong heart.
The five core competencies of the CASEL organization in the United States are divided into social emotional learning: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making. On this basis, kindergartens have formed a "social emotional curriculum pyramid model", so that children can develop good social and emotional abilities in a high-quality supportive environment through systematic curriculum activities and personalized support.
Identifying emotions is the first step. We play games with emotions to make abstract emotions visible, such as echoing emotions with colors. When I'm angry, I'm angry red, and when I'm happy, I'm warm yellow... Slowly, children can begin to identify and express their emotions.
The emotional corner is every kindergarten. As standard in the classroom, children can put their emotions here and help themselves regulate their emotions with the five senses and artistic healing.
We strive to see the silver lining behind every cloud—to recognize each child’s unique strengths and positive character traits. Through consistent encouragement, thoughtful responses, and ongoing verbal and behavioral support, we nurture a growth mindset in every learner.
At the end of each semester, “growth” becomes our fixed theme, as we celebrate even the smallest steps forward together.
There can only be one first place—but everyone can be the best version of themselves. That’s why we launched the Kindergarten Guinness Challenge: to honor what makes each child uniquely remarkable. Whether it’s jumping the highest, juggling a ball the longest, smiling the brightest, or playing the most creative tune on the “Bumblebee” instrument—every child is the proud holder of their very own Guinness record.
Building friendship begins with mutual appreciation. The appreciation wall in the class is full of children's appreciation and gratitude to each other.
Relationships are not always beautiful, and conflicts are also reminding us how to get a better relationship with people. As we get along, we introduced non-violent communication tools, "I see, I feel, I need, please", the four steps give the child a good support.
We solve the problems of collective life together through class meetings. Circle, thank each other, track the last solution, discuss this issue and plan for the next step. Therefore, the cultivation of social and emotional ability has gone beyond the scope of individuals. When children can handle their relationships well, they can also learn to get along with their peers and how to care and respect others. Slowly, the scope of this other person also begins to expand.
Children will eventually get out of school and move to a wider world. Endless distance and endless people are closely related to them. We use various festivals to explore deeper social and emotional issues with children. During the week of the International Blind Day, children feel that the life of blind friends is not easy by eating blindfolded and walking blindfolded. Through the vivo barrier-free public welfare project, we learned how modern technology can help the blind live a better life, which gives them a deeper understanding of the inclusiveness of society, and also makes them start to think about what we can do for the blind friends, a better future world, slowly unfolding under the children's pen.
On Children's Day, understand what rights are with children. Women's Day, let children feel the power of women and see the infinite possibilities of women; The issues of equality, respect, tolerance, rights and so on behind all activities are to give children more diverse perspectives and experiences.
In the continuous social and emotional learning, children write warm poems with real life and decorate classrooms facing happiness. Through continuous social and emotional learning, every child can grow up to be their own sun, have the ability to make themselves happy, and can also illuminate others.
